you for a fantastic event!
This was our first year at the Watauga Lake Triathlon, and
we'll definitely be back next year. We loved every aspect
of the race. The event location is fantastic. The bike course
really showcases the area, and we enjoyed the scenery as we
huffed and puffed up the long climbs. We enjoyed the challenging
nature of the course."

was inspired by the picturesque countryside and pristine waters
of Watauga Lake. Watauga literally means "beautiful water"
and it certainly holds true to its given name. Watauga holds
the distinction of being the highest reservoir (more than
1900 feet above sea level) in the Tennessee river system.
Surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest and flanked by
the Appalachain Mountains, Watauga Reservoir is arguably the
most scenic in the Tennessee River Watershed.

|We're proud to announce that a portion of our 2011 and 2012 triathlon proceeds have been donated to The Cancer Resource Alliance.
The Cancer Resource Alliance, an outreach arm of Seby B. Jones Regional Cancer Center, was established in 2006 to empower cancer survivors and their loved ones to be active partners in their healing journey - inspiring hope through education and support. This team of volunteers, cancer survivors and healthcare professionals has developed programs and services to help cancer survivors and their families find support during and after diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Since 2006, the CRA has developed and supported services including community outreach, exercise programs and regular support groups.
Current programs offered through the CRA include "Connections" survivor to survivor support group. A peer to peer group established to provide support during treatment. The Art Cart program provides creative activities for patients during treatment. Massage therapy is offered through the CRA for patients receiving treatment. The CRA also offers the Cancer Resource Center which is stocked with over 200 books, tapes and videos covering a variety of cancer-related topics which are available for check-out. A wig bank with wigs, turbans and hats are available for free through the CRA. Bras and prosthetics are also available. Nutritional services provide nutrition counseling and a newsletter is in development to provide patients with information about services and resources.
Previous charities of WLT include: Blue Ridge Rural Land Trust, Western Youth Network, Johnson County Rescue Squad, and Sugar Grove Baptist Church.
Thanks to all for making this an enjoyable and successful event for 8 consecutive years!
